Bullying in the Society Psychology Research Assignment (Essay Sample) Content: Students NameProfessors NameInstitutionCourseDateThe Society and BullyingIntroductionAt some point of every individuals life, one has come across the term bullying and in worst case scenarios, some have themselves encountered it. Be it in school, workplaces or other social settings, bullying has become a notorious and inevitable incident which rather that struggle to eliminate, we have in turn focused our attention on learning to cope with it. Not that the former is impossible to achieve but because our social values have evolved to favor the latter approach. The society has borne testament to several intrigues of bullying; this paper focuses on bullying in general whether at school or in the workplace or other social gatherings.Literature ReviewDavid and Boulton (2000) define bullying at the workplace to constitute arbitrary and aggressive acts or verbal innuendos directed at an isolated individual with the aim of rusticating their self-esteem or their sense of perso nal pride for reasons of being different whether in terms of physical strength or skill set. The perpetuator usually referred to as the bully normally has no reasons to justify their actions besides personal pleasure. As discouraged and rebuked as such treatment of other individuals is widely discouraged in our society today, sadly they still subsist; worse still these incidences have increased. The further argue that whereas bullying was a character that was consistent with a certain age of individuals, it has now trans-versed the age groups such as every age group is actively participating.Sally (2011) avers that the reason workplace bullying comes as such a surprise to many is because of the existing vast legislation under which the vice can be prosecuted or maligned. From discrimination against the personhood to assault; verbal or physical to myriad of other workplace rules and regulations in existence, the vice should be long gone. The truth however is that the victims are usua lly afraid of coming out as their desire to seek justice having been severely constrained by the stigma associated with being the victim of bullying ranks lower than their yearning for justice. They are the same folk that end up seeing psychotherapists for a great part of their lives and in other instances end up committing suicide. Some of us are well aware of the Ohio incident where a victim of bullying snapped and accidentally killed his bully. Many will be of the opinion that we let the law take its course, I on the other hand believe that this is an instance of good riddance to bad rubbish because by the time someone snaps like that it means they have endured a lot.Kenneth, Gueldner, Ross and Isava (2008) adduce the evidence of social and psychiatric studies have described bullying as a vice of a cyclic nature; meaning the victim of bullying someday becomes the perpetuator of bullying. This emphasizes the urgent need that we have to stop the cycle because at this rate, at some point in their lives everyone is going to be a bully. These studies reveals that a bully may have multiple victims which technically infers that one bully may result into multiple bullies, save for the ones that commit suicide or get permanently confined to mental institutions. This is not even funny, and I suggest it is about time that entire society took responsibility and lent a hand towards the solution rather than assuming that self-righteous I have never been a bully a day in my life attitude.ArgumentDealing with this requires collective effort from the society as a whole and whether we are willing to concede it or not, we are all bullies; or at least have been at some point. Being a bully and being dead have one thing in common; only the people around the dead notice the contention, the dead are seldom aware the foregoing. It therefore seems more progressive to admit to having been a bully and do the necessary than trying to dig into our pasts trying to locate an instance whe n that happened. A good place to start would be our conscience; we should not watch people bully other people and let them get away with it CITATION San11 \l 1033 (Sandy, 2011). We should endeavor to bring as many incidents as possible out in the open and negate the stigma. Finally, bullies are not born bullies. Bullies are med into bullies or allowed to become bullies. Just like the parents of the worst behaved children in school are often oblivious of what is going on, the parents of bullies usually are not aware. For all they know, their children are the victims. The point is let us stop idolizing our children and trust in the teachers more that our teenagers CITATION Mer08 \l 1033 (Kenneth, Gueldner, Ross, I...
